ARE YOU HIV+?

It's not all about money. The fight against HIV moves forward at a rapid pace, but never perfectly. Huge treatment and information gaps still exist and new ones keep forming. At this time, the focus of some of our work is shifting to support clients who are on, what are seen in Europe and the United States, as first generation anti-retroviral drugs, drugs which no longer carry international patents. Side effects can be severe. We believe that some of the best sources of information for dealing with these, are the people who have worked with, or experienced, side effects from these drugs themselves. In turn, we hope we can use this information in support to our clients.

Drugs currently freely issued in Thailand are cocktails in various combinations of the following: DDI - Dideoxyinosine (also known as Didanosine), D4T – Stavudine, 3TC – Lamuvidine, Nevarapine and Efaverenz. We would be particularly grateful for information as to how you might have complemented by diet, with vitamins etc., or by complementary therapies. All information, will be treated as confidential.

VOLUNTEERS WELCOME

We find the most effective way of winning your long-term support, is for you to come and see the work for yourself. If you are interested in spending some time working with us in Chiang Mai, it might be possible to join us at a time that suits you. Please check this page for information about volunteers and how you can be a part of the Rejoice volunteer effort.

THE FIRST STEPS IN VOLUNTEERING...

In the first instance, please email us and tell us briefly about yourself and how you would like to volunteer. At a later date, we will ask you for a current CV, a recent photograph, and two letters of reference.

References must come from past or present employers or college/university tutors, and not from friends and family.

We will process your application when we receive all your documents and have checked your references. Completion takes about 2 weeks assuming all conditions have been met.

If you are coming to work at the project, please indicate the dates that you are available, stating your start and finish dates but note that we ask that all volunteers stay a minimum of one week, and a maximum of two months. We are not usually able to accept volunteers for longer than two months. Special considerations can be made for individuals who are interested in volunteering as part of a college/university course, or involved in research designed to improve HIV care and awareness.

For individuals or residents of Chiang Mai who live permanently in the Chiang Mai province, we prefer you to work for a maximum of one or two days per week, unless we are engaged in a new project which requires the extra hours.

We welcome volunteers who aspire to being compassionate, innovative, team-oriented, yet independent, self-starters. We need volunteers who are self-sufficient and able to work with or without supervision.

We recognise the importance of a harmonious working environment, especially for our clients, though also for employees and other volunteers at the clinics and at the office. We therefore reserve the right to refuse any applicant, without providing justification. We also reserve the right to let volunteers go, if we feel things are not working out.

We do not charge a fee to volunteer at Rejoice nor do we provide any form of expenses for travel, living accommodation or food. All expenses must be met, in full, by the volunteer. However, we do hope that all volunteers will be creative in helping Rejoice generate funds. Volunteers can do this by helping and assisting with current fund raising projects, seeking out individual donations, or making a financial contribution themselves.

We greatly appreciate the time you have taken to absorb all this. Thanks in advance for your efforts and welcome to Rejoice.
