Liu is a ten year-old boy who lives with his grandmother in a village about 25 km from Chiang Mai, Thailand. His father contracted AIDS from a prostitute, and then infected his wife; both parents are now dead, and Liu is HIV+. The grandmother's husband farms rice and does odd jobs for about $5 per day - it's not enough to pay for medications, let alone send Liu to school.
